Local history: During the 1600's there were over 3,000 documented shipwrecks off the shores of Cape Cod, which led to the region's nickname: The Graveyard of the Atlantic.
Fun fact: In 1891 the first trans-Atlantic cable was laid between Orleans, Cape Cod and Brest, France. This helped cement geopolitical ties between the two countries.
