Before You Go:

Currency: 1 Turkish lira= approx .14 USD

Plugs: Turkey operates on 220 volts, 50 Hz, and uses round-prong European-style plugs

Time zone: GMT + 3 hours (or +2 during Spring-Autumn Daylights Savings).

When to Visit: May-September marks the high season, with warm temperatures and perfect dry heat.  

How many days needed:  One week

Language: Turkish

Nearest airport: Istanbul- New International Airport and Ataturk International Airport

Special paperwork: A Tourist eVisa is required for entry.  It costs $20 and you can apply up to 3 months in advance.  You can obtain an e-visa here.

Getting around:  We used public transportation or taxis in Istanbul. For Cappadocia, SRM Travel arranged all transportation to/from airports, and when visiting sites. 

Local history: Agriculture, and consequently the first civilizations, first appeared in Turkey 11,000 years ago

Fun fact: Santa Claus is Turkish (he may live in the North Pole now, but St. Nicholas was born in Patara)
